Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson batted slowly in the powerplay after losing Sam Karen to zero. Sam Karan was bowled by Tushar Deshpande in the first over. Faf du Plessis then put on 87 for the second wicket with Shane Watson.
Fafa du Plessis completed his half-century off 39 balls but Chennai lost Shane Watson in the same over. Watson, who scored 36, was dismissed by Antrik Norcia. Faf du Plessis also returned after a 22-run partnership with Ambati Rayudu.

When MS Dhoni came back with three runs to spare, then Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja’s partnership led Chennai to the top score. The partnership scored 50 off 21 balls. Rayudu scored 45 off 25 balls while Jadeja smashed 33 off 13 balls in the final overs. Both hit four sixes each.
